Day Surgery & Minimally Invasive Procedures

Our Day Surgery department performs planned, minimally invasive procedures in a modern operating theatre, with same-day discharge for most patients.

Clinical scope

Day Surgery & Minimally Invasive Procedures provides a controlled, planned surgical pathway for conditions that do not require an overnight hospital stay. Procedures are performed by specialist surgeons working closely with anaesthesia, nursing and diagnostic imaging teams to ensure a coordinated, safe experience from admission to discharge.

Because procedures are minimally invasive wherever clinically appropriate, most patients experience a shorter recovery period than with traditional open surgery, with a structured plan for post-operative care and, where relevant, follow-up rehabilitation.

Conditions & procedures

  • Minor orthopaedic and joint procedures
  • Minimally invasive soft tissue procedures
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures
  • Minor general surgical procedures
  • Removal of localised skin and soft tissue lesions
  • Planned procedures referred from other departments

Diagnostic tools & clinical capabilities

  • Pre-operative assessment and anaesthetic review
  • Coordination with Diagnostic Imaging for surgical planning
  • Post-operative monitoring in a dedicated recovery area

Your First Visit

What to expect

Before your procedure, you will attend a pre-operative assessment to review your health history, medication and suitability for day surgery. On the day itself, our team will explain each step, from admission and anaesthesia through to recovery, and you will receive clear written instructions before discharge, including who to contact with any concerns.

Before You Arrive

Patient preparation

  • Follow fasting instructions provided at your pre-operative assessment exactly.
  • Arrange for someone to accompany you home, as driving is not permitted after most procedures.
  • Bring a current list of medication, including any blood-thinning medication, to discuss beforehand.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing on the day of your procedure.
