Clinical scope

The Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine department evaluates musculoskeletal complaints ranging from acute sporting injuries to degenerative joint conditions. Consultations combine a clinical examination with, where required, diagnostic imaging to confirm the underlying cause of pain, stiffness or reduced function.

Treatment plans are built around your goals, whether that is returning safely to sport, managing a chronic joint condition day to day, or preparing for a planned surgical procedure. Where surgery is required, our specialists coordinate directly with the Day Surgery department.

Your First Visit

What to expect

Your orthopaedic specialist will examine the affected joint or area, assess your range of motion and discuss how your symptoms affect daily activity or sport. Imaging may be arranged on the same visit through our Diagnostic Imaging department, with findings used to confirm the diagnosis and agree next steps.

Before You Arrive

Patient preparation

  • Wear or bring loose clothing that allows easy examination of the affected joint.
  • Note when your symptoms began and any activities that make them better or worse.
  • Bring any previous X-ray, MRI or ultrasound reports and images.
  • List any braces, supports or previous treatments already tried.
